About Humanists of Washington

Humanists of Washington is a not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to advancing the philosophy of secular humanism through increased visibility and representation in areas of public and social life in Washington State. HoW aims to operate on behalf of nontheists and our allies to work towards realizing a Washington State that is guided by reason, scientific knowledge, and empathy. We aim to inform our elected officials and fellow residents that a life free from supernatural belief can be meaningful and ethical, and that nontheists deserve equal voice, opportunity, and representation. We aim to uphold the principle of secular government as enshrined by our federal and state constitutions, while respecting our state’s plurality of world views and religions.

Our History

HoW has a rich history dating back to the 1970's and springs from seeds of the humanist movement in Washington state that began in the 1940's.

Our Philosophy

HoW is guided by the principles of Secular Humanism as outlined in the document “Humanism and its Aspirations: Humanist Manifesto III” of 2003.
