HUMANISTS OF WASHINGTON ANNOUNCES RE-LAUNCH

TACOMA, WA. –Humanists of Washington, a state-wide non-profit organization headquartered in Tacoma, today announced its long-awaited relaunch, symbolized by the introduction of a new logo, website, and visual identity that signifies its evolved purpose as an organization serving and advocating for Secular Humanists and other freethinkers throughout Washington State.

According to Pew Research’s most recent Religious Landscape Study, one quarter of Washingtonians look to science and reason for guidance on right and wrong, and more Washingtonians are atheist and/or agnostic than those who belong to all non-Christian faiths combined.

“This relaunch kicks off a new era of HoW that speaks to a unified constituency and renewed dedication to the Humanist values so important to improving our society,” said Sam Mulvey, President of the organization.  “We are proud to continue the decades-long tradition of Humanism in Washington, especially in our increasingly contentious social and political climate. We’ve evolved from a Seattle-based organization, expanded across the Puget Sound region, and are excited to truly serve and represent diverse Humanists across our state while collaborating with local and national groups.”

New initiatives include advocacy through awareness campaigns directed to elected officials, facilitating secular invocations at municipal meetings and legislative sessions around the state, technology access, and Humanist-guided support for incarcerated and detained individuals.  HoW will continue the Humanist ideal of advocating ethical and reason-based solutions to problems like housing insecurity and homelessness, biased policing and incarceration, environmental degradation.  Leaders and members co-sign open letters, participate in public testimony, and join allied organizations in demonstrations of action and solidarity that address the gamut of social woes.

About Humanists of Washington:
